Exhibition ‘I’ve got a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore’

On October 11, the exhibition "I’ve got a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore" opens in Stadshart Amstelveen. This artist-led initiative showcases work by emerging and established artists.

I’ve got a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore

Imagine your house is lifted by a violent storm and lands in a completely different place. You step outside, and the world has suddenly changed entirely—not just the surroundings, but also the people, social norms, rules, and logic. You wander around with an uneasy feeling, trying to figure out where you are and how everything works in this strange place. "I’ve got a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore," says Dorothy in the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz when she finds herself in a similar situation.

The exhibition is curated under this theme. Dorothy’s statement is now figuratively used to describe situations that deviate from the norm. The theme touches on contemporary societal developments and the dilemmas we face as individuals in a rapidly changing world.

Established and Emerging Artists

Thirteen artists have been invited to reflect on the theme. The selection includes both emerging and established artists, including recent graduates from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and established artists with international reputations. The exhibition features both new and existing works.

Artist Initiative

"I’ve got a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore" is an initiative by artists Robbert Weide, Thom van Rijckevorsel, and Anne-Marie van Meel. The organizers are deeply grateful to the Municipality of Amstelveen for their support in realizing the exhibition.

Opening

The opening will take place on October 11 from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM and is open to the public.
